Year 8 Football Winners
On a lovely summer evening it was Year 8’s turn to compete in an inter-house 7 a ’side competition to celebrate the start of the European football Championships. It was a well-supported event that was not short of participants and had teams battling fiercely for the honour of being top of the league.
Everybody played extremely well and conducted themselves admirably, none more so than Franklin’s Stephen Slocombe who was a gentleman throughout all of the proceedings, respecting his opponents and being a fabulous example of sportsmanship. Stephen deservedly takes the fair play award.
Top goal scorer goes to Liam Cubbin for his 9 goal tally. The clinical striker’s off the ball movement was exceptional and he managed to be in the right place at the right time when an attacking move needed a finish – Mr reliable.
On the pitch, there were plenty of examples of individual talent on display. The telepathic link up play between twin brothers Joel and Lennon Murray was at times almost supernatural with both of them orchestrating the midfield for Parks! Attenborough’s explosive winger Suvash Janarthanan was always a threat to the other team and seemed to be everywhere, making last ditch tackles one minute and then marauding runs the next! However, player of the tournament goes to decisive goalkeeper Rhys Barrow who was like a wall between the sticks for Parks. Bravely diving at the feet of onrushing attackers and then leaping in the air to tip over a certain goal – An unmovable object! It is unusual for a goalkeeper to receive this accolade and it is a testament to his talent that he takes the top award.
Well done everybody and thank you for a fantastic evening of football finesse.
