Alsop Teacher Runs the Extra Mile
Alsop High School Maths teacher Mr Chris Blackburn has raised £6,351 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society after completing both the Great North Run and the London Marathon. After 23 months of training and losing over 4 stone Chris managed to complete the marathon in less than 4 hours.
Ms Blackburn writes:“I decided to use the marathon to raise funds in memory of Alzheimer’s after losing both my grandparents to this cruel condition. I owe them a lot as I have some tremendous memories of them and they had a huge influence upon my life. A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, especially to those who have given money to this worthwhile cause.”
Mr Masher, Headteacher comments:“This is a fantastic personal achievement for Chris. We were delighted to share his success with our students. Chris is a great role model and we hope that many other students will be influenced by his generosity and kindness.”
Chris hopes that through his fundraising efforts he can assist people suffering with Alzheimer's, and also the families that are so massively affected by all the added struggles and strains that Dementia brings.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
