Vision of the MFL Curriculum

Designed to promote love of learning a foreign language by including literature culture including literature, film, music, customs and festivals. Learning a language helps to significantly improve literacy skills and promotes multiple cognitive advantages such as improved critical thinking and problem solving skills, improved memory and listening and communication skills. Studying a language provides students with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. It enables students to express themselves in speech and writing and develop practical communication skills. Students are given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of foreign film and literature. Cross-curricular links are interwoven throughout language learning thus supporting the curriculum as a whole. The ability to communicate in a foreign language provides greater life chances and opportunities working in multiple sectors of society.

Facilities

We have a range of classrooms, some with computers. In addition there is the Faculty Pod which can be used for group work and one to one sessions.

Future Careers

Teacher, Translator, Interpreter, Linguist, careers in Law, Medicine, Civil Service, Business, Travel, Hotel Management, Editing and Publishing amongst many others.
